Hemp is such a wonderful plant. Its potential as raw hemp to be converted to become so many different next gen cannabinoids– each with their own feelings, remedies, and treatments– is nothing short of awesome. To consumers who are new to alt-cannabinoids, it can be extremely confusing choosing between Delta 8, Delta 9, HHC, and THCv– so many different letters and number combinations of compounds that all promise to make you feel good.
In smoke shops, head shops, and even gas stations, alt-cannabinoids have become as standard as rolling papers and blunt wraps. And in such a short time! It’s happened so fast that consumers are having a hard time keeping up with all the new information and the vast variety of products available.
THC-O vs THC-P: How One Little Letter Can Make a BIG Difference
There are plenty of articles all over the internet that break into the technical details of what THC-O and THC-P are. We really think this Leafly article explains the different cannabinoids. So we thought we would break it down into plain terms everyone can understand.
Sometimes referred to as the “psychedelic” cannabinoid because of its borderline hallucinogenic effects, THC-O is thought to be three times as strong as conventional (Delta 9) THC because it is not activated until your body metabolizes it. It also has higher “bioavailability,” meaning your body can absorb it more efficiently. So be careful, THC-O might take slightly longer for you to feel the effects, but when that time comes, it hits like a freight train! So remember– take it slow with THC-O
THC-P is similar to THC-O in that it is a much more potent version of conventional THC. How much more potent is THC-P, you ask? How about THIRTY-THREE TIMES more potent. Yes, THC-P is believed to be as much as 33x as potent as THC.
For this reason, most products’ total THC-P content is relatively low. It is a classic example of “a little bit goes a loooong way” We think of THC-P as a little cannabinoid “multiplier” or “power-up”. It enhances the cannabinoids it lives with.
